The Barbados Community College each year is delighted to offer our students the opportunity to receive a number of scholarships or awards. In addition to those which were our students have to complete with sixth form schools, there are a number of scholarships and awards which are given specifically to students at the College. Each scholarship or award includes a monetary contribution. We invite you review the information and be sure to check with the Office of the Registrar’s or your Division head to see how you can qualify.
Barbados Scholarship, Barbados Exhibition & Barbados Award of Excellence
Specific categories of students undertaking the Associate Degree may be eligible for Barbados Scholarships, Exhibitions and Awards for Outstanding Achievement.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for the award of the Barbados Scholarship, exhibitions and Awards of excellence the individual must satisfy the following requirements:
Citizens of Barbados
- Children of a citizen of Barbados
- Children of a person who is ordinarily resident in Barbados and has been so for a period of at least seven years.
- For Barbados Scholarships and Exhibitions, persons who are 20 years old or under on the date on which they complete the requirements in the relevant examinations.
- For Awards of Excellence, persons over 20 years of age but under 30 years of age on the date on which he/she completes the requirements of the Associate Degree.
Semester Abroad Programme
The Barbados Community College in collaboration with the Canada CARICOM Leadership and the Emerging Leaders in Americas (ELAP) scholarship programme, facilitates successful applicants participation in the exchange programme for a period of one to two semesters at a Canadian college or university. Some of the Colleges participating in this programme are Lambton College, Canadore College, St Lawrence College, Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and Lakeland College.
BWU Co-operative Credit Union Limited Scholarship
The BWU Co-operative Credit Union Limited offers five (5) scholarships annually to students between the ages of 17 – 20 who meet the following Criteria:
- Member must be in the age range of 17-20 years
- Must be enrolled as a full time, second year student
- Must have been a Member for at least 2 years prior to sitting your exams
- Must have a minimum of $250.00 on Account prior to sitting exams
- Must be of good academic standing
- Must provide a copy of exam results

The Caribbean Catalyst Annual Memorial Kregg Nurse Scholarship
The Caribbean Catalyst Annual Memorial Kregg Nurse Scholarship award goes to a person with a disability who has successfully completed at least one year of post-secondary school education, in any field and is continuing their formal education at a recognised tertiary educational institution.

F.A.C. Collymore Scholarship Fund
The scholarship is for suitably qualified male students for the award of an Aubrey Collymore Scholarship who plan to take first degrees at the University of the West Indies, a British University or an approved Commonwealth university in which subjects which, at the discretion of the Trustees, may be deemed to fall within the category of Science.
The continuation of any scholarships awarded will be dependent on the holders producing annually from their universities evidence of progress and conduct satisfactory to the Trustees.
This scholarship is not a full scholarship but is worth several thousand dollars depending on which University the student will be attending.
Barbados Police Co-operative Credit Union Limited
The Barbados Police Co-operative Credit Union Limited is offering one (1) scholarship for one (1) academic year with the Barbados Community College. The award shall be BDS $1,500.00.
The Award shall be open to members of the Barbados Police Co-operative Credit Union Limited or the children\ward of members. Applicants must have successfully completed the first year of study at the B.C.C in any programme of more than one year’s duration with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

The Gildan Activewear Srl Scholarship
The scholarship is tenable at the BCC. It is opened to nationals of Barbados who have gained admission to the BCC pursuing the full-time Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Graphic Design. Students between the ages of 18 and 25 shall be considered for this scholarship. It is for a period of 2 years.
Barbados Public Workers’ Cooperative Credit Union Limited
The BPWCCUL offers 4 scholarships per academic year to members enrolled in any Technical or Vocational areas of study at the BCC. Applicants must be Barbadian Nationals and members of the BPWCCUL.
Sir Arnott Cato Award
The Arnott Cato Foundation which presents this award yearly was named after a distinguished Vincentian, Sir Arnott Samuel Cato, KCMG, MB, Ch.B (Edin), Hon. LL.D (UWI) who spent over 60 years working in Barbados mainly in the field of medicine and politics.
The Foundation encourages professionalism and excellence among the health care worker of the future. Students are encouraged to join professional associations and subscribe to professional journals. Students are presented with the Sir Arnott Cato Award which has a monetary value attached based on academic performance, diligence, excellence and exceptional service while performing they duties during their attachment at the Hospital.
Sir Frank Walcott Scholarship
The awards are made in recognition of the significant and unique contribution of Sir Frank Walcott to the advancement of workers and his vision for continuing education and training for all.
Barbados Language Centre Scholarship
Two scholarships are offered annually, one for Languages for Business and Tourism and the other for Languages with Themes.
Each scholar must have applied to and been accepted to the College to pursue three majors. In the case of the Languages for Business and Tourism scholarship the majors must be three of the four languages (French, Spanish, German, Italian) offered for this programme. In the case of the Languages with Themes scholarship, two of the majors must be the foreign languages (French and Spanish) offered for this programme.
Barbados Association of Office Professionals*
This scholarship is offered to an outstanding first year full-time student of the BCC’s Private Secretary’s Diploma programme who is under 25 years of age. The student must consistently attain a minimum attendance of 80%, in keeping with the College’s requirement. The student must also exhibit professional attitudes and personal qualities associated with being an office professional and must demonstrate involvement in extra-curricular activities and must have attained a minimum GPA of 2.50 in order to be considered for this award.
*This is a new award and the BAOP has to ratify the criteria for the award.
