Audition Requirements for Associate Degree in Music

 

Wind Instruments, Orchestral Strings, Piano, Steel pan

  • A prepared piece in any style that demonstrates how well you play
  • Major scales up to 5 sharps and flats

 

Voice

  • Two prepared piece in contrasting styles that demonstrate how well you sing
  • Singing short phrases played on the piano

 

Guitar, Bass (an amplifier will be provided)

  • A prepared piece in any style that demonstrates how well you play.
  • Major scales up to 5 sharps and flats
  • You may be asked to read a chord chart

 

Drum Set (a drum set will be provided)

  • Performance of various styles e.g. reggae, calypso, swing, bossa nova
  • Persons will be asked to play fills in the various styles

 

Each applicant’s ability to read music will also be assessed for placement in ensembles and reading labs. Although this is not a criterion for entry, all applicants are encouraged to develop their reading skills as this is a criterion for exiting the programme. A copy of the 2015 Music Entrance Test is available below for you to download and test your skills.

 

Please note that successful applicants must pass both the audition and theory test as well as satisfy the College’s CSEC entry requirement.
