Bachelor in Fine Arts – Studio Art

 

Programme Description

 

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art combines studio and theory courses as well as research skills and professional business practice to provide students with technical, conceptual and critical skills as the foundation for artistic practice and other art-related occupations. Emphasis is placed on fostering a developing and maturing creative process. The end result is a cohesive body of work which is presented at the graduating Portfolio Exhibition. In addition, emphasis is placed on acquiring a knowledge of historical and contemporary artistic practice both regionally and internationally through the study of art history and visual culture theory. The intent is to provide students with a solid understanding of art and a context in which to develop their own work.

 

Admission Requirements

 

NB: English Language and Art must be included in the four (4) passes and an Associate Degree or the equivalent in Visual Arts with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or above.

 


Students must present a portfolio and undergo an   interview. This is an important examination and applicants are invited to demonstrate that they have the technical skills and the ability to be self-critical. The BFA degree programme is challenging and applicants must demonstrate that they have an enthusiasm for the subject and a willingness to work hard.

 

Mature students (25 or older) who have a demonstrable long-term interest in Visual Art will also be considered and must present a portfolio of work.

 

Bachelor in Fine Arts – Graphic Design

 

Programme Description

 

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Graphic Design is a programme designed for persons who demonstrate practical and visual ability in art and design.

 

The programme helps these persons develop skills and abilities that will help them function confidently, proficiently and successfully as graphic artists, satisfying local and regional demand in the graphic design industry and related areas of employment. Students will produce a personal design portfolio as they develop critical analytical problem solving skills and other transferable skills to prepare them for general graduate employment and postgraduate studies.


Admission Requirements

 

Requirements for admission include an Associate Degree in Visual Arts with a Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 2.5 or above. Mature students (25 years or older) who can demonstrate equivalent technical and theoretical skills may also be considered. All applicants must present a portfolio of 10 works and attend an interview.

 

The BFA degree programme is challenging and applicants must demonstrate that they have the technical skills and ability to be self-critical along with an enthusiasm for the subject and a willingness to work hard.

 

Applications have been extended to Friday 30 June, 2017. Application forms may be collected from the Office of Student Affairs, Barbados Community College between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm or can be downloaded here.

 

Application fees are non-refundable. Programmes of study which are undersubscribed will not be offered.
