Overview

The Sport Management Associate Degree prepares graduates for positions as managers and practitioners of sport programmes of secondary schools, the armed forces and other government and non-governmental sport organizing bodies. 

This programme responds to the need for sport managers versed in both sport-specific knowledge and management skills applied to sport. It is targeted at persons who currently work in the area of teaching, coaching, or organizing community-based and national sports competitions.

Objectives

The Associate Degree in Applied Arts - Sport Management will help students to: 

  • Develop a broad knowledge base through course-work which covers management of various resources, planning and implementation of sport programmes, communication, and marketing.
  • Gain expertise in computer applications in sport.
  • Develop appropriate attitudes through exposure to the legal, ethical and social context in which they will be expected to function.

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into the College are:

  • Four (4) passes at CSEC General Proficiency Level with Grade 1, 2, or 3 (from June 1998 only) OR
  • Four (4) passes at GCE Ordinary Level with Grades A, B or C OR
  • Any qualification considered by the College to be equivalent to the abovementioned.

NB: English Language must be included in the four (4) passes.

Careers

On completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  • Function as Programme Coordinators for schools, clubs and other organizations.
  • Work as Administrative Assistants in sporting organizations.
  • Provide Presidents, Secretaries and Executive Committee Members of National Governing Bodies of Sports, as well as persons organizing sport in the armed services with the knowledge and skills to successfully develop their sport programmes.

Description of Courses

The Associate Degree is delivered on a part-time basis over a period of five (5) semesters, with class attendance on one (1) full day (Wednesdays) and three (3) evenings per week (including Tuesdays and Thursdays). 

In order to qualify for the award of the Associate Degree in Applied Arts - Sport Management, a student must complete a minimum total of seventy-six (76) credits. 

GPA must 2.00 or greater to qualify for graduation.
