Established in August 2012, The Business Development Office (BDO) is one of the newest administrative offices in the institution. The Office falls under the mandate of the offices of the Principal and Deputy Principal. Currently, the Office is manned by the Business Development Officer with assistance from BCC student interns.
The BDO works with the Administration and the Divisions of BCC to support the identification, analysis, and development of strategic programme opportunities that complement the College’s mission. One of the critical functions is the writing of proposals to various agencies, in order to access funding that would build capacity in the areas of programmes and courses, as well as source the relevant equipment or resources to run the programmes. In this regard, the Office has partnered with the Barbados Language Centre, the Hospitality Institute and the Divisions of Technology, Natural Science and Fine Arts.
Once funding is received the BDO is also responsible for the management of these projects. Project funding allows for the training of faculty, the receipt of new curricula for integration into the College programmes and courses and the upgrading and replacement of equipment and machinery. The Division of Technology through funding has trained industry personnel in the areas of Photovoltaic Energy Systems and Industrial Mechatronics – Mechanical Engineering. More than 150 persons benefited from this exercise. The Barbados Language Centre has been able to upgrade their language labs.
The Office is actively involved in the area of student recruitment; managing external events such as career showcases, tradeshows and exhibitions. In addition, the Office is responsible for marketing activities and the development of communication material for the press, radio, the College’s website and other social media platforms.
