Overview

The Bachelor of Education in Technical and Vocational Education is a three (3) year Part Time Programme. It provides opportunities for the practicing or prospective teacher to reflect on and add to their knowledge, skills, and attitudes in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). For those who are not teachers, the programme allows for building a body of knowledge in Tech/Voc.

The programme follows the Competency Based Education (CBE) model which ensures that graduates attain the intricate balance between theory and technical skills necessary for high-calibre practitioners.

The current two options are: Industrial Arts and Home Economics. The Degree programme is taught mainly by BCC faculty, however from time to time some courses are taught by faculty from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology.

Admission Requirements

The minimum qualifications for entry to the programme are:

  • Option A: An associate Degree, equivalent, or 1 Year Teacher Training Certificate.
  • Option B: 2-Year Teacher Training Certificate.
  • Option C: 2-Year SJPP Technical Certificate or equivalent and 2-Year Teacher Training Certificate.
  • Any qualification considered by the College to be equivalent to those mentioned above.

Applicants should possess certification in at least one of the major areas of study.

Description of Courses

The program consists of a professional body of knowledge in Technical/Vocational and Adult Education subjects complemented by a number of Occupational Specialisations in either Industrial Arts or Home Economics, as well as a number of General Education and related courses.
