Between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

REPORTS TO:

Senior Tutor, Division of Technology

LIAISES/WORKS WITH:

All staff & Students

SUPERVISES:

Tutor II

Instructor I/II

LIST OF DUTIES:

  • Deputizes for the Senior Tutor of the Division when necessary;
  • Co-ordinates and monitors the organization of the work of the Division;
  • Prepares or co-ordinates the preparation of syllabuses for subjects or programmes in his/her area(s) of specialty as instructed by the Senior Tutor;
  • Carries out the functions of a Tutor as regards teaching responsibility;
  • Keeps aware of developments and new trends in his/her special discipline and related areas, and liaises with other members of teaching staff to achieve a basis for integrated work and activities in his/her discipline;
  • Gives specialist help and advice to Senior Tutor, in course development and change in methods of teaching;
  • Assists the Senior Tutor with the process of staff assessment in his/her specialist area(s);
  • Assists the Senior Tutor in student selection, registration, examination entries, time-tabling and other administrative duties;
  • Assists in the compilation and interpretation of statistics relevant to students’ application for subjects/programmes, success in internal and external examinations and placement jobs;
  • Requisitions, through the Senior Tutor, appropriate materials for the teaching in his/her area of responsibility;
  • Investigates students who fall short in attendance/punctuality or performance of homework/classwork assignments and examinations when such matters come to his/her attention, and reports findings on forms designed for that purpose to the appropriate member of teaching staff and to the Senior Tutor;
  • Assists in the Development of projects by which his/her Division can serve the community more fully and make a contribution to national development;
  • Performs any other reasonable duty that he/she may be called upon to do by any duly authorized person.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or Electronic and Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Diploma or certificate in Education or equivalent.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or Electronic and Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least five (5) years of teaching experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of the functions and duties of the post and how they contribute to the mission and vision.
  • Relevant knowledge of the Public Service Act CAP. 25.
  • Relevant knowledge of the Employment Rights Act (ERA) 2012-19.
  • Relevant knowledge of the Safety & Health at Work Act 2005-12.
  • General knowledge of the BCC Staff Manual.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of operating electronic equipment provided.

  • Knowledge of the latest trends, techniques and developments in the teaching and practice of the respective disciplines.
  • The ability to lead, inspire, motivate and develop others;
  • Demonstration of effective interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Demonstration of good Time Management skills;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Ability to work speedily and accurately under pressure;
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:

  • Permanent in nature.
  • Sick days will be allowed but not to exceed two (2) days, after which you will be required to submit a medical certificate.
  • Members of the teaching staff are normally free to take vacation when students are officially on holiday. However, you may be required to work or attend staff development sessions during these periods if the exigencies of the College so demand. All employees will be granted no less that the statutory minimum period of leave in any financial year.
  • Based on the nature of the position, it may be necessary to work outside of normal hours, for which there will be no compensation.
