BPWCCUL H. Delisle Hurley Memorial Scholarships – Applications Opening Soon
The Barbados Public Workers' Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. (BPWCCUL) is pleased to invite applications for the H. Delisle Hurley Memorial Scholarships, created to support students pursuing technical, vocational and applied arts education at the Barbados Community College (BCC).
Scholarship Overview
Four (4) scholarships are awarded annually to Barbadian nationals who have gained admission to the Barbados Community College to pursue a full-time or part-time Certificate, Diploma or Degree programme in any Technical, Vocational or Applied Arts discipline offered by the College.
Scholarship Value
Scholarships are awarded based on the duration of the approved programme:
- One (1)-Year Programme: BDS$3,000 (1 award)
- Two (2)-Year Programme: BDS$3,500 (2 awards)
- Three (3)-Year Programme: BDS$5,000 (1 award)
Funds are disbursed in instalments over the approved duration of the programme, subject to continued eligibility.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be nationals of Barbados.
- Have gained admission to an eligible programme at the Barbados Community College.
- Have been members of the Barbados Public Workers' Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. for at least one (1) year prior to enrolment.
- Be in good financial standing with the Credit Union.
- Demonstrate academic merit and financial need.
Special consideration may be given to applicants aged 16–18 years regarding membership requirements, based on the account status of a parent or guardian.
Application Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit:
- A completed online scholarship application.
- A personal statement (maximum 500 words) or a three-minute video explaining:
- Why they should be awarded the scholarship;
- How their field of study will contribute to the Credit Union movement or the wider community; and
- Their financial need.
- Proof of acceptance or enrolment at the Barbados Community College.
- A certified copy of a valid government-issued photo identification.
- An optional recommendation letter from a tutor or lecturer. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview. Conditions of the Scholarship
To continue receiving scholarship payments, awardees must:
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Demonstrate satisfactory academic progress and good conduct.
- Comply with the Barbados Community College's Code of Conduct.
- Submit academic performance and conduct reports prior to each scheduled disbursement.
