Overview

This is a two-year full-time professional programme in the Associate Degree in Applied Sciences.

The programme is organised into four (4) semesters and an internship comprising of 89 credits. Students concentrate on medical and paramedical knowledge and on developing the skills, professional attitudes and attributes which they need to functions as professionals. 

During their two years of study, students will:

  • Develop a broad knowledge base through course work which covers areas such as anatomy, physiology, physical therapy, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, audiology and sign-language.
  • Develop specific skills and patient management techniques including interviewing, observations, manual techniques and the correct application of several modalities.
  • Develop social work habits such as effective time management, team work and safe practices.
  • Develop professional attitudes through exposure to the roles, functions, concepts, moral and ethical considerations of Rehabilitation Professionals.

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for entry into the College are: 

  • Pre-Health Sciences Certificate
  • Four (4) passes at CSEC General Proficiency Level with Grade 1, 2, or 3 (from June 1998 only) OR
  • Four (4) passes at GCE Ordinary Level with Grades A, B or C OR
  • Any qualification considered by the College to be equivalent to the abovementioned. 

NB English Language and two Science subjects are compulsory.

 

 

Paths

Students entering this programme may come directly from secondary school, areas of the health sector or from other fields of endeavour. The student should be mature and responsible and express a genuine desire to help others. 

Qualified applicants are invited to attend in interview.

Careers

Rehabilitation Therapy Technicians constitute part of the Health Team working to get persons functioning after illness disease, injury or disability in the areas of activities of daily living, communication and mobility. 

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

  • Work as Rehabilitation Therapy Technicians in the public and private health sectors.
  • Work in special education centres.
  • Work with the Ministry of Education.
  • Work with day care centres.
