The Barbados Community College (BCC) gymnasium has been reopened to staff and students alike.
Extensive renovations and upgrades have been made to the facilities, with a focus on providing modern equipment and comprehensive exercise options.
Senior Tutor in the Department of Physical Education, Damion Wint expressed his satisfaction with the improvements, explaining that the old equipment had been in use since the 1980s and were in desperate need of replacement in order to ensure the safety of gym-goers.
“We were looking for modern, commercial equipment that would be easy to use by persons that might not be fitness enthusiasts, but they can still work out independently of constant supervision.”
The Physical Education team focused on acquiring machines that assist the user in practicing proper form thereby maximizing their results, regardless of their experience with the workout.
Mr. Wint was happy to see that some students were already taking to the new facilities and encouraged staff to also make use of the gym.
“Staff are charged with delivering superb classes and excellent business overall and to do that you have to be healthy. A healthier staff gives better service for a longer period.”
Describing how the stress that comes with academia can hinder one’s ability to succeed if it isn’t managed properly, the senior tutor championed exercise’s ability to relieve that pressure, making the existence of a campus-based gym vital to any college body’s wellness.
Interested persons should contact the Physical Education Department to schedule a physical examination with one of their staff.
BCC staff is invited to use the gym from as early as 8 AM with the facilities opening to students at 10.
Lockers and showers are available for use but persons are advised to bring their own locks to secure their belongings.
