Years of hard work culminated in an impressive display during the Architectural Final Exam Presentations.
First and second year students of the Barbados Community College (BCC) impressed students, staff and guests with their models and designs, some of which had been in development for the better part of a year.
In attendance were experts from the local construction industry who applauded the students’ performances and offered valuable criticism to the hopeful young architects.
BCC Head of Architectural Studies Marisha Browne congratulated her pupils, lauding their efforts and celebrating their growth throughout the year.
“The presentations reflected not only creativity and technical growth, but also a deeper level of critical thinking and confidence in how the students approached architectural problems.”
A highlight of the day was Zacharee Richard who was overjoyed by the success of his presentation, happy that many sleepless nights and cups of coffee had not gone to waste.
While Zacharee wished he’d had more time to polish up his project, the second year student was flattered by the compliments he’d received from the senior architects and promised to take their kind words to heart.
Marisha Browne explained that the annual presentations were designed to simulate industry practices, teaching the would-be graduates effective communication and how to defend their designs in a professional manner; skills that will no doubt serve them well in the working world.
Thanking her peers, the Head of Architectural Studies expressed her appreciation for all of the support the programme has received throughout its lifetime. Noting that it wouldn’t have seen the success it enjoys without the hard work and generosity of faculty, technical staff, industry professionals and alumni.
“Their involvement plays a critical role in shaping the next generation of Caribbean designers and architects.”
When asked what lies ahead for the programme, Ms. Browne highlighted a stronger emphasis on industry partnerships, noting that while the studio culture and design-centred approach will remain at its core, students can expect more hands-on and interdisciplinary learning experiences in the future.
