As health and wellness becomes more of a national priority, the Barbados Community College (BCC) is inviting its staff to take care of their health.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness has been collaborating with the college’s Human Resources and Labour Relations Department (HRLR) to offer free health checks across campuses through their mobile health clinic.
HRLR Manager, Atoya Hinds explained that staff can register for the service free of cost, by simply submitting their phone number and waiting for a call.
The clinic has already made an appearance this month, receiving numbers just shy of their limit on both the Eyrie and the Jean and Norma Holder Hospitality Institute (JNHHI) campuses.
Testing blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and more, the clinic was a hit amongst BCC staff, with many expressing their gratitude towards the Ministry and BCC.
Natasha Mottley from the Accounts Department explained that she was appreciative of the initiative because it isn’t always easy to find time to check on her health amidst her busy BCC schedule.
BCC Principal’s Secretary Dolores Clinton also stressed the importance of regular health checks, adding that she also attended the clinic the previous year.
“You are able to see if you have any underlying diseases like diabetes... those sort of things and you can then go to your regular doctor and follow up from there.”
The mobile health clinic is scheduled to return in November as part of the college’s participation in Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. It will be at the Eyrie campus on November 5th and at JNHHI on November 6th from 9 AM to 2 PM.
Part time and full time staff are encourage to register in advance by filling out the form found in their inbox.
