The Barbados Community College (BCC) is proud to announce this year’s valedictorian for the class of 2025, Devari Springer-Lewis.
In honour of his commitment to excellence and success, both academic and extra-curricular, BCC is excited to award him this position and looks forward to his keynote address come graduation.
Graduating with an associate’s degree in mass communication, Devari has proven his ability to go above and beyond what both his tutors and peers expect of him, consistently maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout his two years at the college.
Additionally, he served as both the Student Guild’s photographer and helped revitalise the mass comm social media pages.
“I told myself there’s no real point me being a part of a college and not engaging with it.”
BCC Principal, Ms. Annette Alleyne praised his accomplishments, stating that his success was no small feat and that she looks forward to his future endeavours.
“To achieve a GPA of 4.0 is a remarkable feat for a young person who’s also actively involved in extra-curricular activities, so I want to congratulate Devari on his achievement.”
In addition to his activities on campus, Devari explained his passion for advocacy and its impact on Barbados and his own life, specifically mentioning his work with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment, where he tackled animal abuse and Non-Communicable Diseases.
Now studying abroad, Devari expressed his excitement about returning for graduation and teased the theme of his keynote address.
“It’s about letting the graduates know that they have done something remarkable and that they are empowered to do whatever they want to do. To be proud of themselves but also know that they are able to achieve whatever they are capable of, in whatever path they choose.”
Reflecting on his time at BCC, Devari was content to know that it had established a firm foundation for his future, still pulling from his experiences on campus even as he furthers his education.
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, social media and public relations in Toronto, Devari hopes to continue his streak of advocacy while furthering his media business.
The BCC Class of 2025 Graduation Ceremony will take place on November 8th at the UWI Graduation Tent, Cave Hill, Barbados, featuring remarks from the Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, Dr. Kevin Greenidge, distinguished faculty, alumni, and special guests.
