The Barbados Community College acknowledges the industrial action taken by staff members represented by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW). The College respects the right of staff members to engage in this type of action and remains committed to open dialogue to find a solution to the impasse.
Today’s action arises from a decision taken by the College to fill a vacant post. While these discussions continue, the College’s priority remains ensuring that students’ learning experience and access to essential services are supported as much as possible.
Principal Annette Alleyne says, “We value our staff and the critical role they play in advancing the vision and mission of the Barbados Community College. We respect their concerns and are committed to working collaboratively. Our focus is on maintaining the quality of education and minimizing disruption to our students. And what is great about the Barbados Community College and what is great about this country is the freedom of expression and the fact that voices are not silenced.”
The BCC remains optimistic that, through continued dialogue with the staff and their representatives, an agreement can be reached that supports both the well-being of staff and the College’s ability to deliver relevant, high-quality education and training to the people of Barbados and the region.
