Senior Accountant (Account Department ‘Eyrie’ Campus)

$5,438.46 - $6,359.76 (Z6-1)

TIME OF WORK:
8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday with one (1) hour for lunch

SUMMARY OF CORE FUNCTIONS:
To implement the accounting procedures of the College in accordance with the government’s Financial Rules.
LIST OF DUTIES:
- The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the Accounting functions in the absence of the Finance Officer.
- Assist with the preparation of the College’s Budget – Income and Expenditure: preparation of statements of actual and forecast financial information highlighting and analyzing variances.
- Assist in the preparation of the College’s Financial Statements.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring that accounting practices are adhered to according to Financial Regulations.
- Maintaining complete, accurate, and up-to-date financial records which include:
1.Cash Books:
- for recording receipt and disbursement of
- funds from International Agencies.
- Departmental transactions.
2. Accounts with International Agencies and other Governments in respect of funding for the College’s programmes/sponsorship of students.
3. Suppliers’ Accounts for equipment, stationery and other supplies.
4. Revenue Accounts for Registration and Tuition Fees, Rental of Property, etc.
5. Payroll Accounting:
- preparation of monthly and bi-weekly payrolls
- deduction and accounting for National Insurance
- Contributions
6. PAYE System
7. Union dues and other deductions.
- Carries out such other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the Finance Officer or any duly authorized person.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree with a major in Accounting and not less than five (5) years’ experience; completion of part or parts of an accounting qualification;
OR
- Associate Degree with major in Accounting and not less than seven (7) years’ experience as Accountant and completion of part or parts of an accounting qualification;
OR
- Persons working as Accountants who have completed part or parts of an accounting qualification and have not less than ten (10) years’ experience as an Accountant
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the mission and vision of the organization.
- Extensive knowledge of the functions and duties of the post and how they contribute to the mission and vision.
- Relevant knowledge of the Public Service Act CAP. 25.
- Relevant knowledge of the Employment Rights Act (ERA) 2012-19.
- Relevant knowledge of Safety & Health 2005-12.
- General knowledge of the BCC Staff Manual.
- Computer literacy.
- Telephone etiquette.
- Knowledge of operating electronic equipment provided.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:

Forty-two (42) days’ vacation leave per calendar year, fourteen (14) of which must be taken annually or lost. There are a maximum accumulation of one hundred and twenty-six (126) days. In either case, five (5) of the fourteen (14) days must be taken consecutively.
More than 5 years

Sick Leave
- Twenty-one (21) days sick leave, may be granted per calendar year in the case of serving officers, and fourteen (14) days per calendar year in the case of temporary officers.
- Based on the nature of the position, it may be necessary to work outside of normal hours.
