JOB TITLE:

Tutor I – Hotel Operations, Jean and Norma Holder Hospitality Institute

SALARY:

$7,010.31 (S8)

WORK AREA:

Training Hotel, Jean and Norma Holder Hospitality Institute

TIME OF WORK:

8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday to Saturday on a shift system but should not exceed forty (40) per week with two (2) days off and one (1) hour for lunch.

REPORTS TO:

Director, Jean and Norma Holder Hospitality Institute

LIAISES/WORKS WITH:

Tutor I, Academic

All other Tutors

SUPERVISES:

All Operational Staff

SUMMARY OF CORE FUNCTIONS:

To professionally manage the operational affairs of the Training Hotel.

LIST OF DUTIES:

  • Deputizes for the Director of the Institute when necessary.
  • Organizes the Training Hotel on general principles. This organization includes staff, operational processes, and the physical spaces.
  • Supervises all Hotel Operational staff.
  • Prepares assessments and evaluate all operational staff, processes and procedures.
  • Implements operational procedures that will deliver the highest degree of guests’ comfort and satisfaction.
  • Liaises with Tutor 1, Academic to ensure the desired functioning of the Curriculum in its application to students who work in the Training Hotel.
  • Monitors the competency base assessment of students.
  • Performs any other reasonable duties required by any duly authorized person.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Degree or equivalent in Hotel Operations/Management with a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience.
  • Qualification in Teaching/Training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young people.
  • Familiarity with Applied Information Technology.
  • Knowledge and use of the computer.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of the functions and duties of the post and how they contribute to the mission and vision.
  • Relevant knowledge of the Public Service Act CAP. 25.
  • Relevant knowledge of the Employment Rights Act (ERA) 2012-19.
  • Relevant knowledge of Safety & Health 2005-12.
  • General knowledge of the BCC Staff Manual.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of operating electronic equipment provided.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in the use of all Microsoft applications.
  • Demonstration of good Time Management skills.
  • Demonstration of effective Interpersonal Relationship skills.
  • Excellent Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work speedily and accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:

  • Permanent in nature.
  • Members of the teaching staff are normally free to take vacation when students are officially on holiday. However, you may be required to work or attend staff development sessions during these periods if the exigencies of the College so demand. All employees will be granted no less than the statutory minimum period of leave in any financial year.
  • Based on the nature of the position, it may be necessary to work outside of normal hours, for which there will be no compensation.
